Using Makeup to help Balance your Chakras Part 1

What are Chakras?

Chakras can be defined as each of the centers of spiritual power in the human body, usually considered to be seven in number. Each Chakra is found on a different area of the body. The types of personal blockages you experience in certain areas of your life are governed by certain chakras.

What does makeup have to do with chakras?

Make-up can be a great tool to help you unblock your chakras. Chakras are represented by colors and each color resonates with a specific chakra. When you want to unlock energy for a specific chakra bringing in more of that chakra color is the best way to start. Makeup is such a personal choice for every woman. When you choose makeup that speaks to you it not only enhances your look but boosts your self esteem. Your raised self esteem creates more energy. More energy means more activity. So when you choose a color for your eyes, cheeks, or mouth it can be more than just a beauty makeover. It can be part of a spiritual and emotional makeover as well. When you look at this picture below you may see eyeshadow but I see chakra work.

How do I know I need to do chakra work?

Some of the questions you may be asking yourself are:
"Why do I feel so stuck in my career?"
"Why is my relationship so unsuccessful?"
"Why am I so afraid of (insert your issue her)?"
"How come I keep making the same financial mistakes?"

These are just some of the questions you may find yourself asking when one or more of your chakras are blocked.

To get a sense of what is needed its best to know what types of things are represented by each chakra.

How to know which Chakra is blocked?

Root Chakra: insecurity, money issues, feeling like you are not grounded

Sacral Chakra: sexual issues, embarrassment regarding sexuality, low libido, and unbalanced emotions.

Solar Chakra: issues of personal power and self-esteem, our inner critic comes out. Fears of rejection, criticism, physical appearances.

Heart Chakra: over-loving to the point of suffocation, jealousy, abandonment, anger, bitterness. Fear of loneliness.

Throat Chakra:  Fear of speaking, not wanting to speak up for yourself, quieting your voice.

Third Eye Chakra: unable to trust your intuition, poor memory, unimaginative, lacking creativity

Crown Chakra:  Feeling disconnected from source or your sense of higher power.

Starting from the Root to the Crown

Starting from the bottom (Root Chakra) we can work our way up to the top (crown chakra). The first Chakra we will explore is the root chakra.

This chakra is located at the groin area. If you were to imagine energy existing about 8 inches away from your groin area (yes between the legs), this is where your root chakra energy would emanate from. This energy would be perceived as red. This chakra governs our need for personal security. Everything from food, money, safety and security issues originate in this chakra. Wearing red lipstick, nail polish, blush or eye shadow will help bring about balance in this area. Of course red clothing is a definite yes. It helps to use makeup that is naturally made. The ingredients are not only safer for your body but also allow for a more natural flow of energy since no chemicals will be creating physical unbalance in your body.

As you apply your makeup think of your root chakra. Think of the issues you are facing that apply to that area. Make this a very mindful experience. Select affirmations that are the opposite of your fears. For instance if your root chakra is blocked or closed because you are fearful about money, simply state: "I am financially successful. I am great with money. I have all the money I need and want." Any or all of these statements will do. Just add at least one of them to your daily makeup routine and spend at least a week wearing your red makeup. It can be a subtle red or bold red depending on how comfortable you feel in the color. Experiment with what works for you. Also don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Its important to overcome fear with a little bit of healthy risk.

You can add more metaphysical energy to your Root Chakra make-up routine by adding meditation, yoga or carrying a crystal or stone to remind you and help bring about balanced root chakra energy. Recommended root chakra stones are tigers eye ,red tigers eye or red jasper. Adding a clear quartz crystal with either of these will amplify the affect. Carry it in your purse next to your favorite red lipstick (for touch ups of course).

In our next blog post we will explore the Sacral chakra and its color companions.
